TFS Thematic Initiative 2027

The faculties/units at UiT are invited to submit sketches to TFS Thematic Initiative 2027 (prequalification phase – sketch competition).

The forecast for allocation via TMF’s UiT initiative to TFS Thematic Initiatives in 2027 is 50 MNOK. The framework for each project is set at 10-25 MNOK, and the call can thus provide room for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 projects. The host institutions also contribute an equal amount in self-financing.

The foundation has no guidelines on thematics. The outline can either describe an interdisciplinary initiative (within a faculty or as a collaboration between several faculties), or the thematic initiative can come from a research environment at a faculty. The inputs/outlines must be rooted in the strategy of UiT. The common rule is that all outlines must be approved by the faculty/unit before they are submitted to TFS.

The deadline to submitt sketches of max 3 pages (SKETCH TEMPLATE is here) is June 15, 2026, to post@tfstiftelse.no

The TFS board will consider submitted sketches. If the board considers that the sketch satisfies the foundation’s principles and priorities, the initiators may be invited to submit a full application to the final round for TFS Thematic Initiative 2027 within a specified financial framework. The final applications will be evaluated by up to 3 international experts. The project manager and the host institution will be interviewed by TFS’s Advisory Committee (SAB), before the SAB finally ranks the applications. The TFS board will present applications for allocation towards TMF, based on quality and available financial framework..

Refer to “How we work” on TFS’s website for more information.

All the principles discussed above will be used as a basis for awards from TMF’s UiT initiative.

The TMF board decides whether the projects should be funded and follows up on the projects after a decision.

The timeline for work with thematic awards awarded in 2027 is shown below.
