TFS Starting grant

TFS Starting Grant

Since 2016, the foundation has had six calls in the TFS Starting Grant programme. The program intends to encourage the recruitment of outstanding young researchers to UiT. This provides UiT with a unique strategic opportunity to draw leading up-and-coming scientists from all over the world to the university.

Each faculty can nominate up to three candidates for the grant. The candidates undergo a a two-step application process with external evaluation, finalists are interviewed by the foundation’s advisory committee, before ranking and final decision of winners. To date, a total of 16 candidates have been recruited through the TFS Starting Grant Programme.

The Trond Mohn Research Foundation and TFS signed June 2023 a cooperation agreement to implement a separate UiT initiative to support high-quality research projects at UiT.

From 2024, and the 6th call of TFS Starting Grant, candidated will be financed via TMF’s UiT initiative.

Every other year the foundation announces the TFS Starting Grant in a two-step application process. More information about the cooperation with Trond Mohn Research Foundation here. Next call in the TFS Starting Grant programme will be announced November 2025 – with application deadline February 4th 2026.
